Another Sunday, another weekly ride. This week was much cooler than previous weeks. It was overcast and threatening to rain all day. It spat on us a little, but didn’t really rain until we finished our ride.
I thought that because it was so cool, I’d be up for a good, long ride. I thought too soon. The chemotherapy I got almost 2wks ago is working my system, that’s for sure. I just couldn’t work to a high level this week. I did the couple miles pretty hard, but had to take a bit of a break before continuing. I still had fun, even though I overdid it a little at first.
We had an encounter with an awful lot of testosterone, too. A group of guys came up on us as we rested at the top of the hill. They weren’t really riding the trails. They were shuttling on pretty inexpensive hardtails, and riding the pipeline right-of-way that’s not even a part of the trail system. Labyrinth crosses that pipeline several times, and those guys could have seriously hurt themselves or other unsuspecting riders with their behavior. There’s a downhill-specific route (Scooby) for that purpose. Although, it was quite apparent to me that these guys weren’t nearly skilled enough for that route.
These guys seemed more interested in testosterone than much of anything else. I suspect that if they continue riding that way, they’ll start breaking parts (both bike and body parts) and hopefully they’ll start riding with a little more sense. I suppose none of them have a clue what a traumatic head injury does to you. I’m still recovering from my brain stem swelling from over a year ago that resulted from my cancer. I am not as skilled as I used to be.
Here’s my track from the ride…today is from my GPSMap 76CSx rather than my Edge 705. The Edge auto-paused when we stopped for a break, and it never started back up again, so the track is only about half as long as we actually rode. The 76 doesn’t have any sort of pause feature, so it collected the whole ride.
I carried all 3 of my outdoor GPS receivers today, although only 2 of them appeared to work. My Rino 120 seems to be just about dead. When I removed it from my pack, the screen was blank with a single black horizontal line, and the power button was unresponsive. If anyone wants to buy it CHEAP so they could send it to Garmin for repair, let me know. I’ll make it worth your while. Since I have 2 others, it’s not worth it for me to do it. I’ll put it in a flat rate box and send it for $5 + shipping.
