My pocket prairie is coming alive this year. With more reliable rain and a little more time for things to establish, I’m getting a lot of neat flowers. Not even close to all of the ones I planted, though. The perennials pictured were planted as already mature plants, while the annuals were all planted from seed. Got another ride in this weekend to make up for my ride being cut short yesterday.
You know, it gets boring doing so many laps on a short trail network. I like getting in 15+mi, but to get that much mileage in exclusively at these trails, I’d have to do 2 more laps at least. My house was featured in the local open house event today, so I had to make myself scarce. I took the opportunity to get a mtb ride in and enjoyed my time, although my ride got cut short. I had an incident of chainsuck, looks like I had a misadjusted limit screw, and threw the chain off my cassette. That bent the chain some, which messed up the drivetrain. I tweaked it back to being “good enough” to get back to the TH, and took it to the shop so they could check for busted parts. The bent chain was subtle enough that I couldn’t find it on the trail. I have been playing around with ArcGIS Online and I’m debating whether or not to implement it permanently on my site. My best guess at this point is that I won’t use it for everything I map, but it seems to have its place. I am using it right now on my new “Trailheads” page on a test basis. So far, I’m liking that it allows me to layer multiple files (I am currently using .kml files) onto a single map. It can even load .gpx files that way, so it might have a use for track display possibly in conjunction with waypoints. It can certainly handle more complex web mapping than Google Maps can.
