Holiday Activities and 2013 Fitness Goals

As with the rest of you, my holidays have been pretty busy spending time with family and friends and doing the holiday party circuit. I’m trying to avoid gaining more weight, as I already weigh more than I want to (last check at 184lb) and I think I managed to avoid that.

Some Run Logs

I’ve done a little bit of running here recently, and I haven’t logged any of it until now. In fact, the runs have been sitting on my GPS until today. The first one was back at the end of April…so it’s been awhile. I’ll start today and work backwards. Today was the Nacogdoches Blueberry 5k race done in conjunction with the Blueberry Festival. The race this year was to benefit the dog park some folks are working to get here in town. As such, they were very welcoming of dogs running the race. The route passed the aid station twice, giving the pups a couple chances to get a drink. All in all, I’d say the race was very well-done. The local police blocked off some roads for the runners, and thankfully we weren’t buried under a bunch of useless swag.

Cancer to 5k

I haven’t written in a little while, but I wanted to write about my experience in the Cancer to 5k program today.  The Cancer to 5k program is put on by the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults (see their blog, too).  I can only say positive things about the experience.  I wanted to use the program as a springboard to regain my physical fitness and lose the weight I had been wanting to lose before I got sick.  I had packed on a good 25lb in the couple years prior to getting sick, and my overall fitness was suffering.
