Early Aug Night Ride at SFA and New XT Shadow Rear Derailleur

Shimano M772 XT Shadow Rear Derailleur

After my ride in Indy and the mechanical I suffered (being the second time I had that particular problem recently), I decided I needed to replace some worn parts…particularly my 9 yr old XTR M952 rear derailleur.  It still “works”, but I’ve had to bend the cage twice recently.  It’s on its last legs, I believe.

SFA-Kit-SFA MTB Epic

Talking to some other riders in the area about our mtb trail opportunities, I got a somewhat crazy idea about linking our area trails together in a big, long ride. I wanted to do it all via county roads, but looking at maps of the area, it became apparent an all-county-road route would not be possible. The problem: the Angelina River bottoms. Between Nacogdoches and Lufkin, there’s only one road that crosses them: US-59. Not the ideal road because of its 70mph speed limit, but it’d really be the only option unless we REALLY wanted to go out of our way and probably spend days riding. Not this time.

SFA Recreational Trails 3 September 2011

It’s been a long time since I’ve gone for a midday ride. It’s been so horrendously hot it’s not been worth it. But with Tropical Storm Lee in the area, we got clouds, wind, and cooler temperatures. I really would have preferred we get some rain along with it, but I’ll take what I can get at this point. I took advantage of the temps and went for a ride.

SFA Trails in July

It’s been awhile since my last post. Grad school is keeping me busy. So are trips to Schlitterbahn and yard work.

Yesterday saw a slight cool-down due to northerly breezes and I took advantage. It was in the mid-90′s when I left and down to the mid-80′s when I finished up.

Superbowl Morning Ride

My plans for riding yesterday were dashed by the fact that it took the snow a lot longer to melt than I had suspected. It was only an inch or MAYBE two, but it didn’t even start to melt off until after noon. I knew the trails would be slop, so I opted to postpone my ride until this morning, and hope that the forecast for rain held off until later in the day.

A Fall Ride

Just some geotagged pictures from my ride today embedded into a map. And a good ride it was. It was a little bit warm today for mid-late November (80F, I was told), but it was breezy. The trails were surprisingly empty. I got a good ride in…about 15 miles all told (of course, I edited out the portion that shows where I live).
